One month ago, while some of his rivals of today at Czech Cycling Tour were racing at the Tour de France, Giovanni Visconti was in the hospital of Salzburg without knowing if he could race again before the end of the season.
Today the siciliano rider has achieved a 7th place that has the same value of a victory after the calvary started on the 11th of july and the great recovery that has let him fight for an important result in the queen stage of the czech race.
The hard climb of Ecce Homo, to be repeated three times and with some cobbled sections, has created important gaps during the last lap with the race leader Daryl Impey that has led his team mate from Mitchelton Scott Lucas Hamilton to the stage win.
In the sprint for the 5th place Giovanni Visconti didn’t take too many risks and his 7th place looks good heading the final part of the season, especially the italian classics of september and october. Davide Gabburo, the other Neri Sottoli – Selle Italia – KTM rider in the chasing group, ended in 13th place.
Thanks to his placing Daryl Impey achieved the win in the GC with Gabburo and Visconti who ended in 16th and 17th place.
